Lake City, Florida, is a city in Columbia County with a population of approximately 12,000 residents. It is known as the "Gateway to Florida" due to its strategic location at the intersection of major highways, including Interstate 75 and Interstate 10. U.S. Highways 41, 90, and 441 also pass through the city, making it a significant transportation hub. Historically, Lake City was originally named "Alligator" after a Seminole Indian chief. It was renamed in 1859 to reflect the numerous lakes in the area. The city played a role in the Civil War, notably in the Battle of Olustee, the largest battle fought in Florida. Today, Lake City is known for its natural beauty, including nearby Ichetucknee Springs State Park, and its vibrant community events such as the annual Olustee Battle Festival.
